Sweet merciful crap!

It would take more energy than I have to appropriately respond to this story, but the impact of The Simpsons is difficult to overestimate. Uniquely humorous, satirical, geeky and riddled with often scathing indictments of popular culture. A true gem. But all good things must come to an end, as Groening says:
I think we are closer to winding it up," the television show's creator, Matt Groening, told the Financial Times in an interview published Tuesday.
"Although what happens generally if we win the Emmy for best animation show is that that gives us another couple of years to run it into the ground," he said.

They came close to jumping the shark a few times, but always managed a course correction, and the satire ages remarkably well.

doh.

Drunk as a poet on payday

A quote from Marge Simpson, apropos of nothing except it tickles me every time I hear her say it.

I don't think I love this font. When I begin inviting people to visit me here, I may start pooling opinions.

It's their fault for making me want it so much...

Interesting to note that there has been a proliferation of file swapping sites since the demise of Napster. Not surprising, but the technology has changed, so that there is now no central site that can be "shut down." It is a person to person, or point to point (P2P) sharing, essentially cutting out the middleman. What fascinates me about the ensuing debate on the Yahoo boards is that so many are justifying "file swapping" as the record industry's just desserts. If they didn't gouge the consumer, we wouldn't be forced to share files. But the fact is, whatever else you believe to be true, these are copyrighted works and the owners of the copyrights have the right to charge whatever they like, whatever the market will bear. Regardless of their profit margin, taking it from them just because you can is just a rationalized, technologically sophisticated five-finger discount. The anonymity of the web emboldens those who might otherwise not steal. But they are stealing. Intellectual property anyone?

A man in my position can't be made to look ridiculous...

Just finished the ancillary pages and I'm just moments away from actually posting a real blog. I've got some links all ready to go. Any minute now...
